2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Return Home
If you ask me what the meaning is for the travel?
I think it's hard to give a complete description about it.
The original motive of travel for me may be just to watch the spectacular scenery around the world, though I gained more than this.
Life is not a one-way road; If this way is blocked, you could choose another.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Last Day, Oslo
My journey almost is coming to its end soon, but I think it's worth to visit Norway again.
Norway is indeed a long-territory country so that it's hard to watch all the scenes in just 25 days.
While I arranged the schedule, it's not easy to make decisions.
The budget and holidays are all limited, and thus I give up to go to Nordkapp, Norway in a nutshell, Begen, Stavanger and other cities.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Alesund, Bird Colony of Runde
Leaving Geiranger in the morning, I head for Alesund by another route.
The opening hours for the Alesund hostel reception is special and I try to come back to the hostel to store my luggage.
Unfortunately, I wait for the ferry for almost an hour and thus get late for that.
So, the only way is to trust the good safety in Norway and just leave my luggage inside the hostel.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: A Hot Day in Geiranger
Sometimes I question myself: Are you a backpacker? or just a tourist?
You may wonder what is the difference since these two words is the same in the meaning.
However, the word "backpacker" for me is usually referred to the person who handles all the things in the journey by himself.
And the "tourist" is the person who just knows nothing and follow the guide.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Trollstigen and Ørnevegen, Geirangerfjord
In the early mornign, I take the ferry back to Bodo.
Why do I leave Lofoten so early? I could stay longer here......Right?
The reason is in this web page: Litlverivatnet og til Laksholl
I saw this awsome waterfall and thus I decided to arrange a day for the hiking toward the waterfull, Litjverivassfossen, in the Rago national park.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: The Sunny Day in the Lofoten Islands
In the morning, I take a walk before the breakfast.
It's lucky that today is a nice sunny day. Thus, I'm quite looking forward the beautiful scenes along the way back to Å.
Leaving Ballstad, I head for my first destination, Nusfjord.
The road Fv807 is narrow but very scenic just as driving in the background of the film "The Ring".

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: The Cloudy Day in the Lofoten Islands
My schedule today is starting from Å, and then visiting Sørvågen, Reine, Ramberg, Nusfjord, Stamsund and Ballstad.
Because the weather today is cloudy, that schedule is only the reference.
Though driving by myself costs more, I could choose the next destination by intuition
Following the only main road, E10, northwwards, these attractions could be reached easily by the well-set road signs.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: The Rainy Day in the Lofoten Islands
Do you think it's possible to travel aboard by only having the ariline tickets?
Do you think it's possible to travel aboard without any schedule prepared in advance?
Maybe, it's possible.... If I don't have to worry about the budget and the vacation is long enough
Because of the restriction, you have to think of anything that might be important in your trip, such as the train schedule, the ferry schedule, the opening hours for the attractions and etc.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Bodo, Tidal Current
The second part of my journey in Norway is mainly going to Lofoten Islands where is recommended by other backpackers for its beautiful scenery.
Although the local bus also runs in Lofoten island, the bus schedule is not flexible and frequent for me.
If I have a very longer vacation, maybe I will consider it for going to just one day or two places everyday.
Since the holiday is limited and I wish to visit the attractions freely, the only way is to driver by myself.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Time for Rest
Someone may ask me: do I travel by myself? The answer is Yes.
Except for the graduation trip, I prefer the budget travel alone, with my family or with friends.
I like to arrange the itinerary by myself and I think I do well with that.
Maybe I am a egoist that I always insist on what I planned to do, such as arranging the holiday in Norway one year ago.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Lovely Arctic Fox
It's the last day of the expedition.
The brief after breakfast is about the disembarkation.
Someone may take the flight in the morning or afternoon, and someone like me will stay at Longyearbyen for extra days.
The weather is quite nice for landing Alkhornet.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Depressed Day
I believe that all of you have losted your way on the sea, so I show the map again.
We have sailed the route through 1 to 5 and today we will head for Kongsbreen and Ny-London.
Kongsbreen is an avtive glaicer and also rich for bird wildlife.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Zodiac in the Rain
The forth day in the morning, we have already sailed southwards to Monacobreen.
Monaco? You may be curious about it.
In 1906, Monacobreen was discovered and named after Duke Albert I of Monaco.
Breen means 'Glacier' in Norwegian.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Bear! Bear! Bear!
Due to the pack ice, we headed to the south west and try going further east today.
In the morning, we reach the pack ice at the latitude of 80°36.4' N that is the furthermost north position in this expedition.
There is a screen near the reception showing the sea map, our route and the coordinate.
The Arctic is fantastic since human explorered this unknown territory hundreds years ago.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Pack Ice, First Polar Bear
(Thick-billed Murre)
The second day, the ship is trying to approach pack ice as we passed the latitude of 80°N.
However the fog delays us throughout the morning.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Ringed Seal and Walrus
The Arctic Ocean seems to be calm. Even the ship sailed for a night, I didn't feel the motion at all.
Even though, I still took a pill to prevent the sickness.
It still reminds of the sailing from Puerto Natalies to Puerto Montt in Chile.
Because the ferry sailed into the Pacific Ocean, the motion was quite terrible that the plate on the table moved automatically.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Sailing toward The Top of The World
I'm not rich but save hard for travelling, especially the desniation far away.
About the arctic expedition from Svalbard, I've booked one year before with the confirmation letter from the company.
Does anyone book the trip so earily? Yes, I did.
If I have enough holidays, I also want to depart right now.

2014 Travelling Alone in Norway: Ptarmigan, Accident
In Longyearbyen, you could join various kind of activities, such as hiking, dog sledding, horse riding, boat trip, kayaking or city sightseeing.
The Svalbard tourism orgnizes these activities and also provides the reservation service: http://www.svalbard.net/?id=741143270
Of course, the hotel or hostel you stay surely cooperates with the specific travel angency, so joining any activities is easy.
Just as I told before, the tourists must stay inside the security zone unless you have a rifle (and a dog).
